A cultural field excursion to Ancient City Kingdom of Amathus, Town of Limassol,
Ancient Greco – Roman City Kingdom of Curium and Kolossi Castle

Travel through time, from the ancient to the modern times and understand the history, culture and the people of Cyprus. Limassol is located in the south coast of the island and is the successor of two city-kingdoms. In the east lay the ruins of Amathus and in the west the ruins of the ancient Greco-Roman city kingdom of Curium. Drive along the ruins of the ancient city kingdom of Amathus that was destroyed by Richard the Lionheart in 1191. At the highest point of the Hill, the Acropolis, is the Temple of Aphrodite and at the foothill the Agora. The journey continues along the coast, through Limassol with the evident signs of the Greek, British and Turkish influences. Continue through the evergreen Fasouri citrus plantations and the British sovereign bases to visit the ancient Greco - Roman city kingdom of Curium, with its excellently preserved mosaic floors of the house of Eustolios, originally a Roman Villa, the magnificent Greco–Roman amphitheatre, built in the 2nd century BC, and still hosts performances of classical plays, concerts and ballet dances in the summer season. Drive by the Medieval Kolossi Castle, built in the 13th century by the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem after the fall of Acre in 1291, and served as the Grand Commandery.

The field trip includes: transportation in coaches, the escort by a qualified English speaking guides, entrance fees and a live performance/lecture at the Curium Amphitheatre.

 

Social Dinner (November 30) in a Greek Tavern where the participants will be able to enjoy Cyprus traditional Meze.

Transportation between the hotel and restaurant will be provided.
