Air Travel

Cyprus (Larnaca and Paphos airports) can be reached by several major international airlines from European gateway cities. From North America, travellers can break up the journey in the European city of their choice. Popular gateways include London, Paris, Amsterdam, Athens, Frankfurt, Zurich, Helsinki, Rome, Dubai etc. In addition, Cyprus Airways provides regular daily flights from many major European and Middle Eastern gateways. Typical flight times are as follow: London (4.5 hours), Amsterdam (4 hours), Paris (4 hours), Frankfurt (3 hours), Dubai (3 hours), Prague (2.5 hours), Vienna (2.5 hours), Athens (1.5 hours), Tel-Aviv (1 hour), Cairo (1 hour).

    Legal Points of Entry

    Larnaca Airport (LCA) is the most popular point of entry in Cyprus and is located closer to the conference venue (12.8 Kilometres, 8 miles). Paphos Airport is located further away (110 kilometres, 68 miles). It is advised that you book your tickets with destination Larnaca Airport due to the close proximity of the conference venue from Larnaca City Centre and the Airport. Other legal points of entry into the Republic of Cyprus are the ports of Larnaca, Limassol, Latsi and Pafos, which are situated in the area under the effective control of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus. Entry into the territory of the Republic of Cyprus via any other airport or port on which the Government of the Republic does not exercise effective control (Turkish occupied areas) is illegal.

    Travelling Documents

    Travelling to Cyprus is very easy. The documentation required varies, depending on your nationality. A valid passport is required for a stay of up to 90 days for all bonafide tourists except citizens of European Union countries, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway who may enter Cyprus with their national identity card provided it bears a photo. Some non-EU third country nationals require a visa. Further detailed information can be obtained from the Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    Airport Transfers

    You are strongly advised to take flights arriving at the Larnaca International Airport (LCA). The Hotel is only 10 minutes from the Town Centre and 20 minutes from Larnaca International Airport.  A "Taxi Office" is available on a 24-hour basis at the airport, located on the right as you exit the terminal building. Prices may vary depending on the time of arrival (late night surcharge).

    Car Rentals

    Participants may opt to hire a car during their stay, and thus use it for their airport transfers. Cars may be reserved at special conference rates through the online conference registration page.

    Public Transportation

    Cyprus By Bus provides information about buses, bus routes and bus time tables in Cyprus.

    Letter of Invitation

    Delegates requiring a letter of invitation in order to attend the conference may contact us specifying the necessary details. Please note that this procedure aims at assisting the delegates who need to obtain a visa or permission to attend the conference. It is not an official invitation covering fees and other expenses and does not imply any financial support.

    Climate

    Cyprus is fortunate to have one of the most agreeable climates in Europe, with 11 out of 12 months a year enjoying brilliant sunshine.

    Very cool, cotton clothes are recommended for the hot summer months. Jackets and light sweaters may be required for the evenings during May-June, September-October and warm clothes are worn during the winter months


    Language

    Greek and Turkish are the official languages. English is widely spoken. French, Russian and German are also spoken within the tourism Industry.

    Currency / Banking Hours / Credit Cards

    The currency of the Republic of Cyprus is the Euro (€). Banking hours for the public: Monday-Friday 08:00 - 13:30. There are many 24 hour Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) outside most branches of banks in all towns and in the main tourist resorts. Hotels, large shops and restaurants normally accept credit cards and traveller's cheques. Banknotes of major foreign currencies are also acceptable. Exchange rates can be found here.

    Tipping

    Because of the 10% service charge levied in hotels and restaurants, a tip is not obligatory, but small change is always welcome. Taxi-drivers, porters, hairdressers etc., always appreciate a small tip.

    Insurance

    It is recommended that participants arrange insurance for medical expenses, loss and accidents occurring during the conference. The organizers cannot be held responsible for any losses, damages or injuries.

    Electric Current - Voltage

    The supply in Cyprus is 240 volts, a.c. 50Hz. Sockets (type G) are usually 13 ampc, square pin in most buildings. Details can be found here.

    Medical Facilities

    The health facilities in Cyprus are of a high standard. The latest technologies and operating techniques are standard practice, with heart bypass surgery and kidney transplantation operations routine in the hospitals. The accident and emergency departments of all the hospitals are manned with English-speaking personnel, but it is advisable to seek the assistance of an interpreter for more complex medical matters.

    Emergency treatment in the Accident and Emergency department is free to tourists.
